Pay Range

The compensation for this appointment will range from $130,000 to $155,000 annually and reflects what California Baptist University reasonably expects to pay for this staff appointment. Actual compensation may vary based on the qualifications and experience of the applicant, as well as market conditions. In addition to wages, CBU offers a robust suite of employee benefits.

Summary

Serve as Head Coach for the Women’s Volleyball team, serves individual or groups at California Baptist University by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate workers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Other duties may be assigned.

1. Understand and abide by the mission of CBU and the CBU Athletics Department
2. Instruct student-athletes with sound principles and expertise in the area of skills development, training, and strategies to achieve success.
3. Oversee and plan competitive intercollegiate practices and competitions that focuses on the development of the student-athletes and success of the program
4. Responsible for the academic progress and success of student-athletes
5. Has a working knowledge of rules and regulations for the sport, conference, and NCAA and implements these rules on a consistent basis.
6. Students will receive instruction and spiritual guidance that will lead to positive values, acceptable behavior, and self-discipline consistent with the philosophy of athletics at CBU.
7. Motivate team for maximum performance by utilizing motivational philosophies that meet the needs of the students and that are consistent with the CBU Athletic Program philosophy.
8. Assigns assistant coaches specific duties, supervises the assignments, and completes proper evaluation at the end of season.
9. Within the framework of CBU and NCAA policies, recruit and evaluate qualified prospective student-athletes that have the ability to be successful academically and athletically.
10. Display good sportsmanship in relationship with students, staff, officials and opponents as consistent with NCAA policies regarding the principle of sportsmanship and ethical conduct.
11. Maintain up-to-date information of sport regulations, rule changes, and NCAA policies.
12. Responsible for submission of program’s annual budget to the Vice President for Athletics and keep current on all team expenditures to ensure compliance with team budget.
13. Maintain and submit all required conference and NCAA lists, forms and records on time as instructed by Compliance Office.
14. Develops in each athlete a respect for University property and its care.
15. Works with the Vice President for Athletics in setting goals and objectives for the Athletic Department. Acts in a wise and prudent manner within all aspects of the program.
16. Assists in the recruitment and selection of staff personnel and in the development of roles and responsibilities.
17. Effectively manage time in a demanding work environment.
18. Respond to all administrative correspondence in the requested timeframe and attend all staff meetings.
19. Adhere to all institutional, conference and NCAA by-laws and regulations.
20. Ensure the physical, emotional, and social welfare of student-athletes. Establish and ensure a safe environment for student-athletes.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises Athletic Assistant coaches and other Athletic leaders. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

• Knowledge of assigned sport coaching methods.
• Ability to travel, including domestic/international air travel, and work nights/weekends/holidays.
• Knowledgeable and responsible for adherence of all assistant coaches to all Conference and NCAA rules and bylaws.
• Able to be a positive representative of the University at all times.
• Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff and student body.
• Ability to effectively arrange home and away contests according to conference and NCAA requirements and submit travel paperwork and NCAA pass lists on time.

Requires visual acuity to read words and numbers and speaking and hearing ability sufficient to communicate in person or over the phone. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places. The noise level in the work environment could be moderate to loud.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; and one to two years related experience and training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Secondary level athletic experience preferred. Previous coaching experience at college level, NCAA level preferred.
