DIRECTOR-INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY-REGARDS

To serve as the senior technology officer for the REGARDS study, a 20-year research study that recently received an additional 40 million dollars in research funding that came with new data requirements. To ensure institutional and departmental systems align with governmental and institutional regulations and policies. To oversee implementation of information security initiatives by leading and directing teams that work closely and collaboratively with IT leadership to ensure acceptable levels of risk for the organization and apply the appropriate and effective policies and procedures for the protection and privacy of the enterprise’s confidential information resources. To be responsible for all facets of the information security program for the REGARDS research study including working with the NIH on data sharing, vendors on participant data transfer and researchers on data usage. To commit to fostering an environment of heightened security following IT Security Policies and participating in security training, such as Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA) on an annual basis.

Annual Salary: $120,445-$195,725

Qualifications

• Provides leadership and oversight of all information technology for the REGARDS study, a multi-million-dollar 20+ year cohort study with 30,000 participants, 40 employees, and millions of dollars in research contract funding
• Designs, develops and manages participant database system known as SPIRIT 2.0
• Plans, organizes and directs all areas of information technology services and works with UAB IT to ensure systems and current business practices align
• Troubleshoots issues with existing applications and oversees enhancements when necessary
• Researches, develops, plans, tests and implements new system functionality and applications
• Works with IT on issues, testing, upgrades and various initiatives including security, email and data storage
• Perform other duties as assigned

Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field and eight (8) years of related experience is required. Work may NOT substitute for education requirement
