Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs
Position Summary
The Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs is a thought leader and partner with the Provost and manager of the Office of Faculty Affairs. Because academic affairs, faculty life, and student learning lie at the heart of the Spelman College ecosystem, as well as influence and impact Spelman’s partnerships and alliances, the Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs is a necessary member of the Provost’s leadership team. The Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs plays a central role leading and managing all processes related to faculty development and advancement, including recruitment, retention, and is an active liaison between faculty and administration.

Works with the Faculty Council and the Faculty Standing Committees to ensure consistent interpretation and application of the Faculty Handbook and participate in conversations regarding recommended changes.
Required Qualifications
Ph.D., Ed.D., or relevant terminal academic degree from an accredited institution, with rank as a tenured faculty member is required. Five or more years of experience in administrative leadership (department chair, division chair, dean, administrative roles such as directors and program chairs) is also required.
Other requirements include: the ability to exercise sound judgement, tact, discretion, and integrity with sensitive and confidential information; demonstrated capacity for influential leadership with a proven record of accomplishment of innovation, creativity, and best practices; demonstrated skill and comfort with data analysis and its use in tracking and communicating success; and the ability to identify, uncover, and remedy inequitable policies and practices.
Candidates should also demonstrate a policy and data-driven orientation to problem solving, have experience in organizing and directing multiple projects; show the ability to problem solve and adapt to and initiate change; demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills; and have familiarity with tools related to tracking and managing faculty life and human resources management (PeopleAdmin; Workday; Interfolio).

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: sit, walk, use hands to handle office supplies, operate computer and other office equipment, talk, and hear. The employee is frequently required to: stand, reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to: climb, and lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to adjust focus.
Full Time/Part Time: Full-Time 12 month
Work Location/Schedule
This position requires onsite work and is not eligible for remote work.
