Job Description:
POSITION: Assistant Coach or Graduate Assistant for Women’s Rowing
DEPARTMENT:
Women’s Rowing
BASIC FUNCTION: Responsible for the usual and customary duties associated with assisting in the coaching of
an athletic program; responsible for knowledge and skills entailed in the sport being represented.
UNUSUAL WORK CONDITIONS:
Non-traditional work hours; possible extensive travel involved; potential exposure to blood borne pathogens.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree
EXPERIENCE: Related coaching experience preferred
REPORTS TO: Head Coach
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Assists the Head Coach with the responsibility for a successful program. This involves:
overseeing the recruitment of academically qualified student athletes,
helping to maintain the academic success
and progress of all recruited athletes with assistance from the Student Academic Support Services department,
preparing the
teams for practice and competitions on a weekly basis,
overseeing and providing counseling, training and conditioning for the
athletes,
ensuring the rules compliance of the NCAA, Conference and the University in the athletic program with the
assistance of the compliance Services on campus,
immediate reporting of suspected or confirmed rules
violations.
2. Assists in the planning of the program. This involves:
developing an attractive annual
schedule in cooperation with the Head Coach,
meeting regularly with the Head Coach to ensure a clear understanding and
dialogue of all aspects of the program,
maintaining accurate files and documentation on the athletes including information
for the annual report, recruiting and contracts,
recommending improvements to maintain the success of the
program.
3. Assists in the preparation and expense of a budget. This involves:
planning for expensing
of the annual university allocation,
recommending yearly changes in the budget requests,
approving all
expenditures of the program throughout the fiscal year.
4. Assists in the coordination of student athlete programs in
ensuring the success of the team.
5. Assists in organizing and administering a quality summer camp program as
requested.
6. Assists the Head Coach in promoting the University. This includes:
being responsible for a
great deal of public relations responsibilities to radio, TV, the media and University Alumni and service groups,
producing a
program that exhibits success and growth each year due to a great amount of spectator, faculty and media interest and the potential for more
University revenue,
organizing and conducting a quality summer camp to promote the University and generate additional income
each year.
7. Receives annual written approval from the Director of Athletics and Recreation and the President prior to
receiving any athletically related income and benefits from sources outside the institution including contractual agreements and letters of
appointment. Sources of income shall include but are not limited to: income from annuities; sports camps; housing benefits (including
preferential housing arrangements); country club memberships; complimentary ticket sales; television and radio programs; and endorsements or
consultations with athletics shoe, apparel or equipment manufacturers.
8. Participates in the professional development of the
department. This involves:
attending divisional and departmental gatherings and seminars to understand the University and
its goals and objectives,
attending regular staff meetings,
monitoring developments in the NCAA and the
Conference through attendance at workshops, seminars and related associations and organizations,
promoting an image of
efficiency and courtesy throughout the community and the campus.
9. Promotes safe and secure working conditions.
This involves:
promoting proper utilization of equipment, materials, staff and athletes,
notifying the
supervisor immediately of any unsafe conditions.
10. Performs other related duties as required or dictated by
responsibilities.

This position is based at Fairfield University’s
Fairfield, CT campus and is not eligible for immigration assistance.
