Primary
Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Department of Athletics is responsible for operations of 10 varsity athletics
teams, meeting
the requirements of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the
Central
Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) regulations.
The Athletic Department is a vital
part of student life and the educational process at Elizabeth
City State University. It provides a well-rounded schedule
of college athletic competition
designed to encourage participation by the student body. The department encourages
physical
fitness and the development of physical skills and emotional control. It focuses on building
a
championship culture by providing a high level academic and athletic student-athlete
experience,
operational integrity, competitiveness, counseling students appropriately on academic and
other
issues; enhances the physical, mental, and social development of the student-athletes
through
rigorous practices, appropriate competition, and off-field activities including community
service;
and provides a connection point for the campus, alumni, and the community.
Description of
Work
The Head Football Coach is responsible for planning and directing the recruitment, conditioning, training, and
performance of football student-athletes, along with fiscal program management for the University’s football program. The position is also
responsible for ensuring that individuals and groups representing the university’s athletic program fully comply with all institutional,
CIAA, NCAA, and Title IX regulations.
The football program is expected to recruit student-athletes that can be
successful academically, socially, and athletically at Elizabeth City State University, meeting a minimum roster size of 100 active
student-athletes each year; instructing and preparing the student-athletes for competition; schedule and coach intrasquad and
intercollegiate competitions, counsel the student-athletes on athletic best practices and social issues; coordinate team community service
programs; provide a connection point for outreach to the campus, alumni and the Elizabeth City community.
Minimum
Training and Experience
Possess a Master’s degree and four years of head coaching experience at the college level
and/or a combination of education and experience.
